Simple, well-crafted modern folk songs — intimate, offbeat and poetic with a heavy-weight lyricist’s eye for life’s raw edges.
His songs sound like a private journal—quiet, poetic, and brutally honest. The production is simple and clear. Voice, guitar and lyrics like flash fiction.
Once known under another name, Cole built a devoted following in the Pacific Northwest, toured throughout the U.S. and Europe, and had songs licensed for film and television. He also hosted a radio show and published short fiction in literary journals. Then—without explanation—he left. He drifted. Eventually, he stayed several months at a Zen monastery.
These dispatches offer a body of work that doesn’t try to impress—it tries to connect. These are songs that sit with you, that leave space, that trust the listener. They don’t shout for attention; they wait patiently for it.
Abner Cole lives in New York City with his wife, author Cherise Wolas.
